FIRE AT MAKODIYA VILLAGE

A major fire broke out at Makodiya village where we run Abhaya Niketan Mission. Almost all houses of poor villagers gutted to fire and all their belongings totally turned into ash within some hours. Nobody could do anything because fire spread very fast with the help of dry weather and blow of air. Many animals, chicken, wheat, food items, household goods and even tractors and Threshers of some villagers are also totally destroyed. Poor villagers left with nothing.

It was a shocking scene when Fr. Sam Oommen went to see the lost caused by fire. Villagers were crying and running here and there fire engines trying their best to douse the fire but it took almost 48 hours to douse the fire. Due to smoke and heat it was very difficult to help them. How will they survive now this is a very disturbing question before us. We can pray...
Please pray for the poor unfortunate villagers. Help poor villagers.

We appeal all to help us to build their houses and help them to start their livelihood soon. You may send DD (we expect - for faster clearing), Cheques, MO in favour of "ABHAYA NIKETAN" payable at BHOPAL (M. P.) INDIA, or direct to Fr. Sam Oommen.

Makodiya is a village in Madhya Pradesh State in Central India. It has a population of about 850 with about 200 plus houses. Mr. Clark, a British Missionary who visited Makodiya in 1900, was the first known Christian who was here. In 1885, there was a plague epidemic in Makodiya. Many villagers were killed by this epidemic. The plague left 24 orphans who were tended by the British Missionaries. These are the first known Christians in this region. Later the authority handed over this village and Mission center to His Grace (Late) Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius then Metropolitan of Kolkata Orthodox Diocese and Indian Orthodox Church started its operations to help poor villagers through various schemes and projects.
